Duty, Honor, Country

The U.S. Military Acedemy at West Point has its own ski area. I was lucky enough to ski the Victor Constant Ski Area once. It is part of the magic that is West Point. Captain Victor Constant was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale during WWII. He was reassigned to West Point. He brought his enthusiasm for skiing with him. He used prisoner of war labor to expand and improve the small ski area at the Academy. He coached the Army ski team. In 1946, Capt. Constant was training for the downhill at the national championships at Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire when he skied off course and was killed.
